I am so proud of our 6 third grade students who participated in the Battle of the Books at the school level. While it was unfortunate that we weren’t able to accomplish as much as I had hoped (due to our snow days), I was extremly impressed with the dedication and determination these girls showed to qualify for the 3rd grade team. Next year the 4th grade team will be looking to these young ladies as our leaders- I will be so excited to see them in the 4th grade competition!
3rd Grade
On March 3rd and 4th, 2015, Oldham County’s 9 Elementary Schools gathered for the District Battle of the Books competition. To qualify, students were required to individually read a selection of 10 books, pass a written exam, and be able to recall minute details from the texts as members of a team. Those students who qualified by achieving the top 6 combined scores formed Camden Station’s District teams. They sacrificed their lunch and recess time for 2 weeks to practice for the competition under the coaching of their novice leader, Mrs. Grimm.
The results?
Our 4th grade team represented our school with confidence and maturity which made us so very proud of them, and they received an Honorable Mention ribbon. We believe they will return to District next year as seasoned 5th graders ready to shine.
Our 5th grade team also showed great team work, graciousness and composure. Their efforts resulted in a 3rd place ranking. We are extremely proud of ALL of our Eagles who participated in the Battle of the Books this year, and we are eagerly looking forward to the competition in 2016!
